The Parish of Hammond River provides a health ministry that supports a volunteer parish nurse. A parish nurse is a registered nurse with specialized knowledge, who is called to ministry and affirmed by a faith community to promote health, healing, and wholeness.
Parish Nursing is a blend of nursing and ministry. The focus is on health and wellness promotion and education rather than ‘hands-on’ physical care. The parish nursing ministry is consistent with the basic assumption that we care for ourselves and others as an expression of God’s love. It is also based upon the belief that a faith community is a place of health and healing. The Parish Nurse has a role in promoting the wholeness of body, mind, and spirit through the integration of faith and health.
Parish nurse activities at Holy Trinity include:
- Home & hospital visitation
- Health-related workshops and information sessions
- Blood pressure and immunization clinics
- Foot care clinics
- Transportation to appointments
- Quiet time & prayer
- Lending Library
